The Crystal Singers have a long history of performing. Starting in 1968 as a mixed choir, it has evolved into today’s 42-voice women’s choir, comprised of women of all ages and backgrounds who enjoy harmonizing in a choir with an up-beat repertoire and sharing their music with the community at large. Our varied repertoire includes classical, show tunes, jazz, modern composers, folk music, sacred music and ‘The Oldies”. Performances, fundraising and social activities provide opportunities for friendship, fun and sharing a love of choral music. This dynamic choir has performed at many locales on South and Central Vancouver Island and in the Gulf Islands, and has also sung with other choirs in joint concerts and with many distinguished soloists in the Greater Victoria area. The Crystal Singers are committed to performing free concerts at least twice a year at seniors’ residences and care homes. We participate in benefit concerts at no charge to the sponsoring organizations; most recently these have included “Sing for a Lifetime” which benefits school music programs, Prostate Cancer Foundation, and the Victoria Tall Ships Society Festival. We also jointly organized and performed in a benefit concert from which all proceeds were donated to the Canadian Red Cross for tsunami relief in SE Asia. Each year we provide tangible support to Women’s Transition House. Because of our belief in supporting young artists, we sponsor an annual $100 award to the Best Intermediate Female Vocalist competing in the Greater Victoria Performing Arts Festival. This year we also donated $200 from our concert proceeds to the Oak Bay High School Senior Choir to support their travels to compete in a national choir competition in Ontario. |
